Angeles City Fire Department
1996 to 1998
- Designed and developed the Oracle database that supports
the 911 Fire Command and Control System. This 24x7 system handles thousands
of calls every day, and dispatches units from over a hundred fire stations
throughout Los Angeles.
- Specified, evaluated, and procured intranet-based map display
software, which provides each dispatcher with a browser-resident map of the
greater Los Angeles area, showing the locations of active incidents, street
and freeway names, landmarks, parcel ownership information, and more.
- Designed and developed the interface between the Oracle
database and the above map display software. Real-time data is fed from the
Oracle database to an Access database on a separate Map Server using a TCP/IP
messaging package. The Map Server hosts the Apache Web Server, and the browser-resident
maps communicate with it via normal HTTP. Database connectivity on the Map
Server is achieved through CGI, Perl, and ODBC.

- Database Technologies is a premier East Coast Oracle consulting
firm, covering all aspects of Oracle application design and development.
- Lead the development of a Sales and Marketing system for
a large well-known mail order retailer. The system included Order Entry, Telemarketing,
Shipping/Billing, Inventory, and Reporting components. Performed the requirements
analysis, process and data flow analysis, functional specifications, data
modeling, physical database design, forms design and development, data conversion,
performance analysis and tuning, and general DBA functions.
- Co-developed a Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) application
that enabled a large chemical manufacturer to optimize raw materials usage,
track and predict inventory requirements, and monitor production costs.

- Designed and developed the Oracle database that supported
a Facility Monitoring System, which tracks all inventory and personnel at
a large Air Force Base, and enables commanders to make informed decisions
about redeployment of the Base's resources in emergency situations.
- Designed and developed server-to-server replication algorithms
that kept multiple large databases in sync across a LAN, and server switchover
software that provided database fault tolerance.
- Designed and developed interfaces between the Oracle DBMS
and custom-built Map Display software.

Norwood, MA, 1991 to 1993
- Phoenix develops compatibility system software (principally
the PC BIOS) for OEM's. Initially hired as a database consultant, I became
a staff member shortly thereafter.
- Lead the Tools and Diagnostics Group, which was responsible
for company-wide engineering tool development. Systems included a Software
Problem Tracking System, a Quality Verification Suite, a Time Tracking System,
and the Build and Release System.
- Headed the team that specified, designed, and developed
the Build and Release System, which enabled Phoenix to efficiently track and
reproduce any of the large number of customized software products they ship.
The system interfaced with the company's Source Control System, streamlined
the engineering delivery process, and simplified product tracking, problem
resolution, and configuration management.
- Provided company-wide support for database maintenance.
Senior Engineer, Stone Mountain Computing

- Designed and developed a SQL gateway between Stone Mountain's
VMS-based spreadsheet product Graphic Outlook and the commercial RDBMS
